The aim is to Protect Water, Prevent Illness and provide a consistent regulatory system that reaches across the county. Cities included in the Septic System Inspection Program include Corcoran, Dayton, Greenfield, Hanover, Rockford and Rogers MN.
Existing Septic System Disclosure
Unlike some other Minnesota counties, Hennepin County does not require a professional inspection prior to property transfer. This doesn’t mean that a property seller is off the hook. MN State Law requires Septic System Disclosure be given in writing to the property buyer. Many mortgage lenders insist on a Septic Compliance Inspection as a condition of the loan for properties with and existing septic system.
New and Improved Septic Systems
Hennepin County may provide inspections for New Septic Systems, Repairs done to current systems or after a Complaint has been filed on an existing septic system. All other Compliance Inspections will have to be done by inspectors Licensed by the MPCA.

If you are applying for a Building Permit you may need to get a Septic Compliance Inspection. This goes for new commercial or residential structures, bedroom additions, increased wastewater usage and shoreland areas. Check with your local government unit to see if your individual project requires a current Certificate of Compliance from a MPCA Licensed Inspector.
