Septic System Inspections
Expert Septic Contractors in Minnesota
One of the most common pieces of advice is to ensure a septic system inspection is performed before the sale of a home with onsite wastewater treatment. Although not required by law, many realtors and experienced property owners strongly recommend it. Custom Septic, Inc. offers affordable septic system inspections for Big Lake and the surrounding Minnesota cities.
Our septic inspections can provide valuable insight into how long the septic system may last, any potential red flags, the quality of past maintenance, whether it is functioning safely, and, most importantly, whether it is compliant or non-compliant. All of this information can help you make an informed decision regarding expected maintenance, projected costs, and more.
If you’re new to the “septic world,” we are more than happy to share knowledge and maintenance tips tailored to your specific property.
Minnesota Septic Compliance
After a professional inspection is performed by the certified contractor at Custom Septic, Inc., you will receive either a Certificate of Compliance (COC) or a Notice of Non-Compliance (NON). These terms are established for the safety and health of the public and the environment. The reasons for a professional inspection performed by a licensed and qualified company, such as Custom Septic, Inc., can include new construction, septic replacement, or, depending on local government regulations, a home addition. While there is no state-wide requirement, it’s important to check with your local government when acquiring or servicing a Subsurface Sewage Treatment System (SSTS).
Certificate of Compliance
Receiving a Certificate of Compliance does not guarantee anything or act as a warranty. It is a state-regulated certification that is valid for three years. Some local governments require and enforce certifications for various reasons. A COC indicates that the system on your property is performing within the required standards and is currently safe for public health and the environment.
Factors to Consider
There are two types of Notices of Non-Compliance:
- Imminent Threat to Public Health or Safety
- Failing to Protect Groundwater
Each NON will also include a timeframe for repairs, upgrades, or replacement services, which must be completed to be in compliance.
Who Can Perform the Minnesota Septic Inspection?
To receive a locally recognized Certificate of Compliance, the inspection must be conducted by a business or employee licensed and certified by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. Custom Septic, Inc. owner Brad Krotzer is fully licensed and certified to perform septic system inspections and has the required forms that must be used and submitted within 15 business days after the completed inspection.
